With the assistance of the Copyright Alliance, digitalmusic.org, the trade association for the digital music business, is expanding it’s popular Music Startup Academy to encompass all forms of media and presenting, for the first time in the DC metro area, the Entertainment Startup Academy.

  • Copyright 101 for Entrepreneurs
    A deeper dive into the economics of the entertainment industry, including where to get the rights you need for the creative works you use. We’ll cover performance rights, including understanding the various rights for master recordings and songwriting legal issues surrounding music product development; sources for licenses for audio visual works, photography and more.

    Once a deal is done on the legal side, technical teams need to work out content delivery and royalty reporting mechanisms. This session will discuss industry XML standards for content delivery, and royalty reporting, metadata, best practices, and troubleshooting  .

"Resources For Startups" Sessions

  • Key Administration and Hill senior staff dealing with small business issues will kick-off each of the above panels and provide information about government resources for small business startups.

Networking Reception
  • Following the programming, join us for a networking reception sponsored by the Copyright Alliance. Get to know the speakers and meet members of the creative community as well as other attendees while enjoying some great cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

Due to security reasons, pre-registration must close at 9 AM on October 10. Pre-registration is $59 per person. A $50 charge will apply to all persons registering after 9 AM on October 10, making the Late Registration fee $109 per person. Persons registering after 9 AM October 10 are not guaranteed a seat at the event. Approval will be granted to late registrations on a first-come, first-serve basis, depending on the time it takes to obtain a security clearance.
